Singapore is located at the heart of Southeast Asia. It’s historical background as one of the busiest ports in the world also means its location is extremely convenient for travelers. Five Stones Hostel has put together the following simple guide for our backpackers to get to Singapore.

By Air:

This is by far the most convenient way to travel to our island country. Singapore’s Changi Airport is famous for being the world’s best airport for many years running and for a good reason too. A major travel hub with 3 spacious terminals and an extremely efficient customs process, you will be out of there before you have finished marvelling at all the shops or even the eco-roof of the spanking new Terminal 3.  The airport is connected to the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRT), which will take you downtown within 30 mins. Bus and taxi services are available as well, but they may take longer time/are pricier.

By Land:

Singapore is connected to our neighbouring country, Malaysia by a 1km long bridge. Frequent buses commute between Johor Bahru (the closest Malaysian city) and Singapore. Daily buses also leave from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and the journey typically takes about 6 hours.  Train services are also available from Thailand and Malaysia.

By Sea :

Being an island state, it is also possible to enter Singapore via the sea. The most common routes will be from Malaysia (Tioman Island, Tanjung Belungkor) or Indonesia (Bintan island, Tanjung Pinang).

If coming from Malaysia by land, make sure you check that you have the proper exit stamp on your passport, to avoid problems at the Singapore Customs.
